Senior Softball Beaufort (SSB) Announces 2024 Spring Season, Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, SC and adjacent areas —
Senior Softball Beaufort County (SSB), in conjunction with Hilton Head Island Recreation Center, reports the start of the 2024 Spring season. If you enjoy softball and want to play in a 55+ senior softball league, open to men and women, dedicated to fun, safety and competition, Senior Softball Beaufort welcomes you.
Currently, the League has 5 teams with over 80 players with local sponsors. Teams are looking for new players, with the goal of assembling 1 or 2 new teams based on the level of interest. SSB teams are built with a goal of parity through a draft process, so individuals are recommended to register on-line at www.seniorsoftballbeaufort.com in order to be eligible for the draft and to receive future emails from SSB.
All new players are strongly encouraged to attend at least 1 open group practice for assessment and placement on a team. “We want players of all abilities and will build team rosters that foster friendships, fun and healthy competition” said League Commissioner Rick Trenary. “All of our teams include tournament caliber players alongside teammates that just want to play for the fun of the game.”
“Rosters are limited to 15 players so that everyone who shows up for games will be in the batting lineup and play at least a few innings in the field”, per league Co-Founder Dave Hofmann. Interested players are encouraged to register asap and will be contacted several weeks prior to the scheduled introductory practices. Introductory practices for new players will be scheduled for March, with team practices to follow.
The regular spring season starts in April with playoffs ending in late May or early June, depending on weather. Every Wednesday, each team plays 2 games (4pm and 5:15pm) at Barker Fields on Hilton Head or other fields in the Hilton Head / Bluffton area (to be determined). Founded in 2021, Senior Softball Beaufort is an independent association whose purpose is to provide opportunities for seniors to enjoy senior softball, in a fun, safe and competitive environment, in the county, using game rules specifically built for senior softball.
