Many seniors 55+ who play senior softball and who relocate to Beaufort County, SC or the Savannah, GA areas are shocked to learn that, outside of Sun City in Bluffton, there is no senior softball men’s league or locally based travel tournament team for them to join! How could that be? Senior softball is extremely popular throughout the country. The climate here is great for playing and practicing throughout the year.
These seniors are left with a couple of choices: play with much younger (faster and stronger!) players in the adult softball or co-ed softball leagues in Bluffton; switch to golf; join a travel tournament team based in NC, another part of SC or GA; or learn take up pickleball! Sun City does not permit anyone who does not own a home there to play on any of their many teams. So for all other seniors, there is no real option for them to play with their peers in Beaufort County or Savannah, GA!
So a few of the local senior softball players are working with both Beaufort County and the Island Recreation Center to form a new senior softball league. Games will be played on county fields, with possible games on a Savannah area field if a team is formed from there and joins the league.
If you are 55+, love playing softball and making friends and are interested in participating in the league, please let us know! Our plan is start working out and practicing in late January through February, with the spring league starting in March 2021.
